The ATD 2019 International Conference and Exposition recently concluded. This global event brings together the decision makers, industry leaders and of course a whole load of HR professionals for discussion, presentations and professional networking opportunities that will direct and guide the way organizations develop their talent. Over three days, attendees heard from over 400 speakers and got the chance to meet with over 400+ exhibitors in the largest exposition in the industry.
This year’s event featured keynote speakers Oprah Winfrey, Seth Godin, and Eric Whitacre. Oprah Winfrey kicked off her keynote with words about following your gut, choosing good leaders, and being of service. She noted that things only went awry when she didn’t listen to her gut or when she chose the wrong leader. She followed her speech with a Q&A with ATD President and CEO Tony Bingham.
During Seth Godin’s keynote, he brought to the table stories, images, and ideas that attendees can use to change their colleagues. Godin believes that there’s a revolution going on in organizations, and, if attendees choose, they can be on the front lines of that transformation. He closed with asking, “Are you ready to level up?”
Eric Whitacre asked attendees to “be part of something bigger than yourself” while speaking about the difference we can make through our impact on others. Whitacre explained that leadership is about moving ahead despite not knowing how to get there.
SumTotal at ATD
SumTotal was there in full force. Based around the theme of “Develop Your Talent,” attendees who stopped by our booth received a demo of how SumTotal delivers learning-centric talent development through onboarding, learning and development, career planning, and so much more. We heard about some of the biggest challenges attendees are facing. High on this list are onboarding, career planning, and learning and development.
Children’s Miracle Network
SumTotal wanted to replicate last year’s fundraising efforts which resulted in us donating to the local San Diego chapter of the Make a Wish Foundation. This year we selected the Children’s Miracle Network, a non-profit organization that raises funds for children’s hospitals, medical research, and community awareness of children’s health issues, as our designated charity and recipient of funds raised. I’m delighted to say that we raised over $3,000!
SumTotal and Skillsoft both received awards from ATD for being a part of the ATD Professional Partner program which is designed to help connect ATD’s audience by highlighting the products and services of companies dedicated to improving the talent development industry. This award recognizes our commitment to providing service, content, and media visibility with ATD.
We want to thank everyone who supported us and made this another successful show!
