Introduction to ToolBook Simulation Editor

Having a workforce that can productively use internal software applications and other business-related software is critical for many corporations. Using the ToolBook Simulation Editor, you can create interactive and accurate software simulations that provide learners with hands-on learning experiences and teach them what they need to know! This course provides you with a foundation for developing simulations and combines a traditional, instructor-led training approach with hands-on, interactive workshops and coaching.

Course Objectives

After taking this course, you will be able to:

  • Design software simulations to meet your learning objectives.
  • Develop simulations that can be used to demonstrate features, give learners opportunities to practice steps, and test learners on their interactions.
  • Add instructions and feedback to simulations.
  • Add custom functionality to simulations to make objects hide and show, and respond to specific simulation events.
  • Create an application recording using the Sim AutoBuilder Recorder.
  • Generate and modify simulations from Sim AutoBuilder recordings.
  • Create menus to allow learners to trigger a simulation to operate.
  • Make simulation templates to speed up the development process.

This training is intended for users who want to:

  • Move beyond the basics of ToolBook and want to create interactive courses rapidly
  • Create some amount of custom interaction
  • Explore the potential of more advanced features that allow custom development

Class Details

Format: Instructor-led class
Duration: 1-day Onsite or 2 x ½ -day Virtual
Materials: Includes the following:

  • Training Guide: A guide with concepts and exercises to be used during the training
  • Workflow and Reference Guide: Comprehensive guide covering essential features of ToolBook 10.5
  • CD with class files: Contains all the files that you will need during the training to build courses as well as several additional resources

Day 1: 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. EST

- Virtual –
Day 1: 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. EST (9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. PST)
Day 2: 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. EST (9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. PST)

Prerequisites

Meeting the basic system and connection requirements necessary to view and participate in the training, including:

  • Hardware Requirements: Intel Pentium III 500 MHZ processor or equivalent, 256 MB RAM minimum, 150 MB free space on system drive.
  • Bandwidth Requirements: 256+ Kbps connection.
  • Proficiency using a Web browser
  • Basic Windows knowledge, including the ability to:
    • Launch applications using the Start menu
    • Use the taskbar to switch between Windows applications
    • Use Windows Explorer, to navigate the file structure, change the view of file listings, move and copy files, and create new folders (or directories)

Additional Information


Note: All classes in Atlanta, Gainesville and Mountain View will be held from 9 AM to 4 PM local time. Timings for the virtual classes are from 9 AM to 1 PM PST.

Please do not make travel arrangements until Educational Services contacts you and confirms your registration and payment.

Cancellation Policy: Classes are filled on a first-come first-served basis; your seat is guaranteed only when we receive your full payment or purchase order. Occasionally, circumstances require us to reschedule or cancel a class. In such an event we will notify you in writing via email at least 10 working days before the first day of class. Also, if a class is rescheduled or canceled by SumTotal Systems, you may request a refund or apply the fee to any other SumTotal course. We recommend that you do not purchase your airfare until at least 10 working days prior to the start of class so as not to incur unnecessary airfare charges in the event a class is cancelled.

Please note there is no cancellation  fee if the activity is cancelled by Sumtotal or if cancelled by you, before the Cancellation deadline (10 business days prior to start date).  After the cancellation deadline expires, there is no refund allowed.
