Course Description and Key Learning Objectives

This course will introduce you to the features, tools, and process flows of the SumTotal Succession Planning module. After an overview discussion of Succession Planning concepts, you will observe a demonstration of key Succession Planning processes, and finally, get the chance to practice the most important tasks in a demo environment. The information and activities included in this course will prepare you to effectively utilize the system to meet your organization’s Succession Planning needs.

After completing this course, you will be able to:

  • Define the main concepts and components of Succession Planning
  • Identify the main features and tools of SumTotal Succession Planning
  • Describe the Succession Planning process from defining key positions to identifying successors
  • Demonstrate how to execute Succession Planning processes such as:
    • Running a gap analyses
    • Creating position profiles for key positions
    • Completing both HRMS and Leadership Talent Assessments
    • Utilizing the Talent Explorer to search for and calibrate potential nominees

  • Access to the SumTotal Succession Planning module
  • Basic Internet skills and intermediate computer skills
  • Familiarity with your organization’s talent structure and talent development goals
  • Completion of the Succession Planning Orientation
  • General Admin Course
