Interactivity and Media

The difference between levels of learning in custom development is determined by the amount of interactivity – that is the degree to which a learner “touches” the content – and media, which provides the look and feel, the visual and auditory elements that enhance the learning experience and help to illustrate or reinforce concepts. The degree and complexity of these two elements is directly proportional to the learner’s level of engagement, and is also directly related to overall cost and development time.

Interactivity happens in interactive screens, exercises, knowledge checks and assessment questions. It defines the amount of exchange or engagement that takes place between the learner and the content.

Media is any visual or auditory element meant to engage the learner. Media includes the images, fonts, graphics, animations, and narration that surround the content, making it more alive and engaging in the learner’s eye.

Custom Content Courseware can be created for each of the levels of learning (knowledge, comprehension, and application). The choice of level of learning is driven by the specific course objectives. Once this has been determined, the level of interactivity and media can be selected:

This audio-driven sales training course was created for sales professionals. The course makes optimum use of click-and-reveal interactivity and illustration-based, conceptual animations to explain ordinary content in a highly engaging manner that gains the learner’s attention through entertaining animations and audio narration. Therefore, this is a Level 3 course.

Level 1

This level is ideal for the recall of simple fact-based information. Its interface is similar to basic Windows functions such as “click to display” and “click to reveal.” A learner can experience interactivity in the form of: pop-ups, rollovers, simple animations, multiple choice exercises and true/false quizzes. This level uses simple and effective media content to activate the learner’s senses. It will feature client-provided images, brands, fonts, and sound effects as well as stock images and graphics.

The Basic Package is fixed at this level.

Level 2

Level 2 Learningis nuanced, promoting a deeper, more critical understanding of content. The interactive techniques commonly used are drag and drop, fill in the blank, matching, click to reveal and reflection exercises.  Often, Level 2 courses contain scenario-based multiple choice and interactive animations.  This levelfrequently deploys complex media content that can feature customized images, simple 2-D illustrations, objects, charts, icons, graphs, as well as professional audio narration.

The Advantage Package is fixed at this level.
